Right Age And Right Time Should Be Kept In Mind While Choosing Boarding As An Option

Disintegration of joint family system and increasing trend of working parents have given adoration to prefer boarding school for the kids. The academics, the athletics and the extracurricular activities, are just a few considerations. No doubt, it helps students to adapt all kinds of situation and prepare for the journey, called life. In boarding; students not only gain knowledge but, actually, attain a unification of mind and body.

But sending the children at a very young age, is not a wise idea as the small kids need tender care and affection. To put them in a strange environment means trying to steal their carefree look and innocent thoughts. Ages 3 to 6 are considered to be a recognizable developmental stage of mind and body too. Remember, the physical setting is major issue. The parents should think that there is no one offering a comforting hug or a hand to hold if he is anxious, ill, homesick or scared.

Parents should not escape from their responsibility. They are the one, who brought the kid in this world. This phase of his life will never return back. Losing touch with family is, generally, the hardest adjustment for the kid. There are more rules, restrictions and children from varied backgrounds. All feel like strangers. The environment may become stressful for the kid. Also he may feel unloved or unwanted by the parents. Moreover, such stress might affect his academic performance. Sometimes, he can also feel neglected by the teacher also, that gives an adverse effect on his personality.

In some cases, a nasty kid is thought to be improved in boarding schools. Transition to boarding school involves adjustment to new experiences: physical, social, behavioural and academic challenges and expectations. If the child is bitter about being sent to boarding, he may get detached from the family. Sometimes, the spoilt child gets indulge in harmful addictions and experiences unpleasant ragging or bullying, it might break his self confidence and can have a very disturbing effect on his overall development, which would constitute an unhappy and damaging start to school.

Boarding school is a good option only if your child is able to express and demonstrate and to socialize confidently in his peer group. In other words, he should be mentally strong and stable enough to handle staying away.

The more child can do for himself, the more successfully, he will function.

One thing should be kept in mind, kids are the top prior duty of parents; facilitate the tendering buds to bloom, don’t let them to shriveled inside.

Schools offering boardings should also take it as overall responsibility of boarders. Their security, health, behaviour and good habits are direct concern of boarding management. Schools should not keep boardings for commercial benefits only, but to produce more strong & responsible citizens for country. Boarding schools are known for their strict discipline. In building disciplined students, schools just forget to develop right emotions in our future citizens, to build emotions boarding schools should conduct some parent – student programmes which should be attended by all the parents of the boarders. Boarding management should have direct touch with school authorities to provide every right care to the boarders. Even then boarding should be an option, only if, it is required.
