Inculcating skills for life time; Major duty of schools

Education, the process of acquisition of knowledge, skills and confidence to cope with unpredicted situations to be faced by the student. School should have a systematic planning or strategy  to inculcate these abilities in  children. Mere abilities of “knowing” and “retrieving” are not important.  The really important and complicated ideas can be learnt only by dealing with them. Kids need to be taught in many ways — not just through lectures or blackboard diagrams, instead teachers should be trained to present their ideas in many more ways, depending on the particular children they work with. Children will have to be developed not only to solve existing problems but also to discover new ones.

The necessary skills for global survival is termed as life skills. It includes: the ability to communicate with confidence, public speaking, personality building with self esteem along with manners and etiquettes and social responsibility that contribute to responsible personae. Being a responsible citizen of the classroom, school, family and the world outside, is another facet of being successful in life.

School should introduce an abstract frame of activities to teach these valuable skills. It should be an integral part of each student’s day. The established  idea is that children are naturally interested in activities they have witnessed. And it can also be called “Practical Life Exercises” to allow the child to do activities of daily life and therefore, adapt and orientate himself in his society.

All round development of child is the aim of school and school should plan for them to participate actively in a variety of processes weigh up what is fair and unfair in different situations.

To boost their self confidence and to remove the stage fear, debate and declamation competitions are to be organized by school,  that will enable them in future for admissions in reputed organizations where group discussions or one-on-one interview is one of the steps in selection.

School is the second home for a child. The way, in which, his personality moulds depends not only on the parential upbringing but also on the way they are being taught in school. Personality means the set of qualities which makes a person distinct from other. It follows the idea of bringing out  the best in the child. School should give the practice of certain values such as walking, sitting, greeting others, manners (please, thank you, and “May I”) how to interrupt a teacher or another child (“Excuse me” and tapping a teacher on the shoulder and waiting to be responded to), passing objects, following directions, how to open and close a door, and control of body through silence games etc.

The outer personality of the child matters a lot. School should teach the child at young age  how to dress up by arranging certain activities.

There is a need for schools to play a role in teaching the habit of caring and sharing. When the child observes these activities in the environment and gains knowledge through the real experience, he accepts it heartily. And it becomes a part of his life. Practical life activities help to give the child a sense of being and belonging, established through participation in daily life with the teacher. The child also learns about his culture and all about what it is to be human.
